Rules
Quote:
•(1)The thread title must be "Bréguet's pre-1914 ID challenge #......"
•(2)The score board, link and rules must be copied to the beginning of each thread, so that we know where we are. The score board and the correct answer to the challenge must also be placed at end of each thread.
•(3)The flying object must have been dreamt up before 1914 (no limit backwards in time ....)
•(4)There are no limits to the flying object for the pre-1914 series. There is no ruling that it must be flown, or completely built
•(5)Machines which exist only as 'paper', that is absolutely no material has been cut to construct it, are excluded from this ID Challenge
•(6)The picture / drawing must show as much of the flying object as possible, but views showing the machine 'incomplete' are possible (with discretion)
•(7)Challenges which depict a machine already earlier presented are disqualified
•(8)If there is any doubt as to the eligibility of a flying object for the challenge details should be PM'd to Breguet BEFORE the object is submitted.
•(9)Once someone has got 5 correct answers under their belt they belong to the ROYALTY. Once they belong to the ROYALTY they must wait 12hrs after the posting of the new challenge before they can post an answer.
•(10)To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in its identification.
•(11)The first person to ID the challenge correctly gets to post the next challenge. If this can not be done for any reason Breguet himself will post the next challenge.
•(12)If a ROYALTY gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next one. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.
•(13)The final arbitor in relation to questions about the rules will be Breguet

This pretty machine will not be that difficult, but lets wait for that. For a full point give please the complete identification. Perhaps there is also someone who knows who is in the pilot chair, that will earn 0.5 point I think.
Cheers
Kees

I have a very bad picture of a Lohner monoplane, Minimus I, of 1910, with a tail assembly that looks like an identifying characteristic. If so, the pilot might have been Rittmeister von Umlauff.

Nothing fancy at the moment, but recognizing the speed at which the pre-1914 challenges have been racking up so far, I've quickly compiled a rough list of the past 60 days to keep alles in ordnung.

I know this one!!!
This is the 1910 RAS Monoplane. Built in England, and easily recognisable by the funny-underside-dorsal-fin-like-thing beneath the fuselage. The name RAS came from the initials of the three London men who were responsible for the flying machine: Mr Reader, a barman; Mr Allen, a bricklayer; and Mr Sheffield, a chauffeur.
The person in the pilot's seat is Oswyn George William Gifford LYWOOD, who eventually became an Air Vice Marshal in the Royal Air Force.
Another photo, and some background info can be found here.
In addition a slideslow, showing 12 different photos of the RAS Monoplane, can be found at this webpage.
Cheers,
Paul

Many thanks Rod for your effort. This is not a rough effort, this is the best we could have, with even a short description of the machine to identify the machine further.
Great work Rod
We will maintain here the meticulous systematic approach as announced by Breguet. Wait and see. It will make the indexing far easier and less time consuming.
Cheers
Kees

Exactly Paul, you are one of the starts of the pre-1914 movement. Great identification and even the pilot. It will earn you a full 1.5 point and bring you closer to star quality where you have to wait 12 hours
Our new standardized end result of the pre-1914 Challenge comes in the next reply in this thread.
Cheers
Kees

Correct answer to Breguet Pre-1914 Challenge #034
_________________________________________
The picture shows the R.A.S. Monoplane built in 1910 in the United Kingdom. The abbreviation R.A.S. stands for R.A.S. Aeroplane Co. Gosport. Each letter represents one of the founders of the firm, Mr Reader, a barman; Mr Allen, a bricklayer; and Mr Sheffield, a chauffeur.
In the pilot chair is Oswyn George William Gifford LYWOOD, who eventually became an Air Vice Marshal in the Royal Air Force.
