Any good books about early flight?
Im searching for books about early flight and attempts that has plenty of illustrations and detail without it being tedious.

So you're looking for picture books without all those boring words in them.

I highly recommend "Taking Flight: Inventing the Aerial Age from Antiquity to the First World War" by Richard Hallion. It does a great job at covering a pretty significant amount of history in a relatively compact package. It's a great starting point as everything technical is well cited. Also, the "Lore of Flight" does a pretty decent job, and has great illustrations of early engines and airframes.
In my book, nothing beats WW1 Aero when it comes to aviation history and information, but it'd be a pretty expensive to buy all 201 issues...

Early Flight books
Hey Willie,
See if you can get hold of "The Flying Omnibus" Edited by Paul Jensen and Published in 1953 by Cassell & Co Ltd. It has 30 short stories about aviation 11 of which are about early flight and is a good read. A mixture of fact and fiction but all great stories.

Some excellent accounts about early aviation can be found in the "Epic of Flight" series of books from Time-Life. Some of the books that may appeal are:
The Aeronauts - ISBN 0809432676
A history of balloons and balloonists
The Road to Kitty Hawk - ISBN 0809432609
Covers heavier-than-air aviation up til the end of 1903
The First Aviators - ISBN 0809432641
Heavier-than-air aviation between 1903 and 1914 They are very well written and edited, and the graphics and photographs are first rate. The books are laid out in such a way to allow for easy browsing, or for more in-depth enjoyment, if you care to read the narrative text.
Though the books originally came out some thiry years ago, I think they stack up fairly well to anything that's been published since.
Cheers,
Paul

Just checked this out of my local library, and it is fantastic!
The invention of the aeroplane, 1799-1909, by Charles H. Gibbs-Smith.
