Crash

Mostly I do not much in crashed aeroplanes, but on Ebay US I found this picture for sale that is somehow intriguing.

First I could decipher the caption clearly. Are we looking at the chute of Cavelier (?) on 24 September 1913. Although the accident looks smashing Mr. C probably escaped as he cannot be found in the list compiled by Dave Lam - Aircraft Deaths - Fixed Wing Only To August 1914. Surely this does not mean that Mr. C survived but there is hope.

Given the French text of the caption it is likely that we are in France. The monoplane - heavily damaged - I could not definitely pinpoint.

Any answers about Mr. C or the crash or the machine ?

Already In august 1912 Marcel Cavelier crashed at Amiens In an attempt to realize
a raid from Calais to Biarritz

"Vainqueur du prix de la Maison des abeilles de Rouen, le jeune aviateur Marcel Cavelier - il est né à Paris le 28 octobre 1891 - sur un Blériot-Gnome 70 ch tente un long 1 100 km Calais – Biarritz mais casse du bois à l’atterrissage lors de son arrêt pour ravitailler à Amiens."

Thanks for the quick information. Mr. Marcel Cavalier did not exactly walk away from the crash having sustained fractures of the legs and the shoulders, but sure he was extremely lucky to have lived after this crash. These Nieuport monoplanes could take a very heavy beating and protect their pilot.

Thanks again for your quick reply.
