I've recently read several books that mention the DH 2.
I certainly would enjoy seeing one in the air. Are there any full size replicas flying in the US?

Please pardon moi for appearing Klintonesque ("What's the meaning of 'is'?") but the answer may depend upon the distinction between replica (lookalike) and reproduction (entirely-largely authentic). It'd probably be difficult to build a DH-2 with anything but a rotary engine, but there are Dr.Is and stuff with Warners, etc.

There was a Kinner powered DH-2 built by Walt Redfern (and I think his wife still sells plans) that flew in the early '80s in Idaho. It came up for sale a year or two ago, price started around $80K and was down to around $40K last I heard, then I think Peter Jackson bought it and it's now down in New Zealand, don't know if it's flying again yet. There was also a flat engine powered one flying within the last couple of years, maybe in Texas or someplace down there.

There is an FE-8 flying (with a flat engine) at the Owl's Head Transportation Museum in Maine, it flies quite a lot during the summer.

Also, there was a DH-2 replica flying in England within the past few years.

BE: That's muchly interesting. I knew Walt yeeeears ago but never heard that he finished the DH-2. He was a fine gent and fine artiste. Henley Aerodrome was a picturesque setting for biplanes and other lovely critters.

Hello, I am working on a DH-2 kit with Robert Baslee of Airdrome Aeroplanes.
http://www.airdromeaeroplanes.com/
We are hoping to make it an U/L. It will be 75% scale and the wings will remove at the inner bay. It should be transportable on a trailer with only the outer wings removed. I want to use the original style bungee type ailerons. 20" workman style wheels. We believe it can work with a Kohler 25hp CH25s engine with a 2.1:1 redrive and a 72" prop. Leave the governer on the engine and it will fly all day at full throttle and at Max U/L legal speeds ( approx 63mph ) . We already have drawings but Robert would like to get someone else in on the project so we can make 3 or 4 kits at same time. A kit without engine or instruments should be about $5000 to 6000. I am selling my Nie16 to build this.
Cher'o,
Lt. Dwight Rudder, RFC

Take a look at http://www.biplanes.de/show_dh2.shtml for photos of the full sized Kinner powered DH-2 in England.
