Achim,
Thank you very much for your picture of fabricating the rings. You have just proven that a picture is worth a thousand words (or several hundred at least).

Jim, you did ask about the axle box, what is the problem to make one ? if you can not bend the alu, I can send you one. I still have maybe 20 and the dimensions are taken from an original.

you can make it a little moore professional, if you weld a small tube to the rod , so if you are ready just slide the coil off. normally I use a bigger machine for the job, but a small one like this one is OK. the tool post must be as high as possible so the tube is not going back. use the feed from the machine. if you have no machine and no possibility, I am sending every week engine parts to england, I can send you one. years ago I made so many coils, I am sure I do not need them all.

Axle Box
Franzkait, I would love to talk to you about one of your axle boxes- thank you. If you want to email me or IM me how much $ one would cost, I would be grateful. Many thanks.

Franzkait,
It was me who had the problem, the boxes you have look very nice, much better that what Ron has in the plans. The main problem is Ron has us use T3 aluminum which is very hard and cracks easily.
Thanks
Ed

I do not use this type of hard aluminium you mentioned. I am sure if you decide to go with another material, you will well be able to make the boxes yourself.
I have displayed one simple methode on how to get it done the simple way, if you do not have the proper bending tooling and machines available, at the "FTS-Projects" thread on page 27 and 29.
Hope this helps
Enjoy!
Achim

Couldn't you just weld in a couple of steel tube spreader bars like Nieuport and a lot of others used? It's going to be covered up by the axle wing anyway, I suppose it's a matter of authenticity vs. simplicity.
