I'd Like to be there with or without my Tripe. Trouble is, where's the opposition?
Heres some progress pics.
Upper spar varnished inside. Center spar awaiting varnish. Lower spar scarf reinforcements being glued.

Looking good DogTail2! I have been cutting the rest of the spar spacers all day - awaiting the rest of the triblock to come in, to finish up the spars. Keep 'em coming!

RFC Pilot,
"A Mig at 6 is better than no Mig at all." Or for this forum, "An SE-5 at six is better than no SE-5 at all." Can't wait for another YYZ layover soon to finally meet you. Great work at the Great War Museum.

This past weekend Jim and I made the jig for the elevator, brazed the hinges to the pipe (unfortunately for Jim he had to spend most of the day on the lathe cutting out these sleeves and for the ailerons) sleeve that will pivot on the elevator spar tube, and bent up three sets of elevator leading edges. Ya, you read that right; three. There is now a third Dr1 in CT. I have attached three photos of the tubing being bent. First we bent the angle closest to the center using an 8 O.D. x .250 tube that I just happened to have laying around, the plans calls for a 6”R but the 4”R worked just fine. Then we took it over to the vertical milling machine and using the rotary table to keep the two bends in line, I wrapped the rest of the tube around the neck of the miller, some hand bending was needed to make it fit the jig properly but the hard part was done quite easily. I’m sure this is how they did it back in the Fokker Factory…………. .....
Oh Ya, sorry abut the fuzzy pictures, I think I let Jim smoke his pipe a little too much…. I need to check to see what he’s putting in that thing……

The sad thing is; is that it is a decent camera , Nikon coolpix 8700 8.0 mege pixels with a 8x zoom $800.00. It hasn’t been a good experience since the day I bought it, so really its only half Jim’s fault….
