Actually I have a question for you regarding the undercarriage. What size tube did you use for the 2 tubes which run each side of the axle and join the shock boxes? The plans call for 13/16" dia. x .049w. I can not find anyone who stocks this size. If you know of a stockist let me know. I tried all the usual, Aircraft Spruce,Wicks etc.

Thanks, Pete
I did a quick google search and found it at several places... here is the first one: http://www.statesteel.com/

Granted, it may not meet your specifications, but it is out there...

Thanks Rob,

I checked the link but unfortunately, although they have 13/16", its not 4130.

Andy,

I checked with another builder here in England and he used 3/4" .049w. A little bit loose fit but still fine after welding. His is now flying.

Jim,

Next job is to figure out how to jig the spars for mounting on the fuselage. I'll probably start with the center spar. I have a bit of a chicken and egg situation with the upper spar. Do I fix the the upper spar in space, correct relative to the center and lower spars, then build the cabane struts to fit, OR
build the cabane as per drawing and hope that the upper spar sits in the right place when its done

Some Throttle Work

Completed a little work tonight on the throttle ratchet section using a wire EDM machine. These machines make super accurate cuts - would have hated to do this by hand !

Andy,

Wow! that Wire cutting thingy really does fine work! Can Ed and I get in line? =-)

Finishing up the final of 6 wings now- my upper one. Then we will fit the brackets we received from Roger Freeman. Just got a gallon of green epoxy primer in and hope to soon start on the back of the fuselage!

How will you finish your machine guns?

All the Best!

Throttle Pieces

Jim,
I don't know about a line but I do have a couple set aside for you and Ed ! I will be working on the rest of the throttle housing shortly.

As far as finish for the guns, I am interested in some of the Gun-Kote baking type finishes...If all else fails, there is always spray paint !
