Spar brackets

Worldcruiser,
This is great stuff - I think I can speak on behalf of the other builders here when I say that this is what it's all about...sharing the info and doing what we all can to get these things in the air !! Your contributions here are greatly appreciated by all !

Random thought

While looking over other threads on fabric covering, I had a flashback. During restoration of my Stinson L-5, I did not want the pink color of the first coats of poly brush(I think that ceconite is green??) to be visible from the inside of the cockpit area since the original coverings had a white linen appearance( the L-5 has no 'interior' to hide the backside of the fabric). Checking with poly Fiber, they suplied the poly brush without coloring(the color just helps you know where you've been spraying) and the resulting white finish looks good. I'll probably do the same for the cockpit area of the DR1.

Ron Sands Has Passed Away

To All,

I just heard today (MON 18OCT2004) that Ron Sands passed away last week due to congestive heart failure. I just sent an email to his son Ron Jr. at bigpine@talon.net to convey my condolences. Honestly, I just ordered a set of plans from him, might have been the last he sent out.

He sure has helped a lot of us realize our childhood dreams. God Bless him and his family.

Continuations....

I received a very nice email response from Ron Jr. I'll post it here today. I took a pen and noted Ron's passing on the rib I made last night. That will go into my plane.

Moving Forward - Ron Sands Jr. letter

Hi Jim,

Thank you so much for your note of condolences. I appreciate it very much and will pass them along to the rest of the family.

We plan to keep selling plans as we move forward as that was what he wanted us to do. We will not be able to offer much in the way of parts though. Two other builders have offered to provide technical advice in the future. Should you have the need, I can put you in contact with them.

Ron, Jr.

God Bless you and your family. I just received a set of plans from him last week...

Cost

I am thinking about a Dr 1 replica project, however I have to work out some sort of budget. does any body have any idea of total cost for airframe and cost for engine, preferably a radial.

Price List

Funfdekker-

Call Karen Scobbie at Wicks Aircraft Supply and tell her to email you the parts/price list for a Ron Sands Fokker Triplane. Just about everything except an engine and prop are included- I think it all comes out to around $12,000 or so in pieces...

Engines are a real variable here- Opposed Lycomings may be the cheapest and most reliable way to go ($9K - $13K guys?) and a radial is going to be a little more. After you choose your engine, THEN you will know what type of prop to use, and can determine the price. That this project is likely to take you 2 to 5 years to build should make it budgetable. Join the EAA also- the wisdom there may save you money in terms of building and tools- some have "tool libraries"! And read all the postings here- lots of helpful info.

If you still need more info, just ask! Which state do you live in?

Price list

Ah ! I should have have mentioned that I'm from England.

Prices aren't as much as I expected. People spend more playing golf ! I suppose there will be shipping costs as well to get stuff over the water.
I'd prefer to use a radial. There is a replica Sopwith Triplane flying here with a radial and Im trying to find out what it is. There is also a Dr1 but I believe it has an inline of some sort.
