Jim, I'll try to get a picture of the finished wing tip on our Dr.I. However, I won't be able to see it until the 13th.

Thank You!

Wolfenbill,

Many thanks for your help. Like I mentioned before, trying to describe the question requires more accurate verbalization on my part than accurate vizualization on everyone else's! I look forward to your photos- whenever you can send them will be great.

All the Best!

Achim to the Rescue!

Wow, I love the internet! Achime graciously shared with me some of his beautiful blueprint and technical drawings in trying to help answer my question about upper wing tip trailing edges! Thank you Achim!

I know he comes to our forum here a lot to read our goings-on. Have you all signed up on his site? Well worth it. Achim, if you ever plan a visit to the USA- let us know, you have a lot of friends here!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Jim

Main Ribs finally finished!

Only 5 more aileron ribs to do. Finishing last wing tip with edge tomorrow and i am gluing the doublers onto their associated ribs, except for the 2 lower wing inboard ribs, which have to be canted.

Will send pictures soon. how is everyone else doing? In the air yet?

Spar Materials

Pretty far from being in the air but very happy to report that the spar materials arrived today from Wick's ! I have to commend them on the crating job - very heavy duty with an emphasis on heavy ! Even the "Fragile" stickers are shaped like Iron Crosses !

Looking forward to getting started on the spars and will do my best to photograph and document the progress here. If anyone has any additional info., photos, etc. to share it would be greatly appreciated. I feel that this is an area where things can get dicey as well as pricey. Finding out that you've made a miscalculation or cutting error midway through construction of a spar could cause immediate spontaneous human combustion !! But hey, measure twice (or three times) and cut once !

Jim Bruton, you are a rib machine - not even human anymore ! ( Just kidding ! ) Glad to hear you are coming along so well ! You'll have to let the rest of us know how she flies !

Also, glad to see Achim here as well. Your experience and expertise in this area is greatly appreciated. I myself follow your threads and continually ask myself "how does he do it ???". Your work is mind-blowing ! Top notch !

Anyway, I have some wood to uncrate and sort. Time to tune up the saws and get busy !

Hope progress is good for everyone and lets keep the information coming !

Oops ! Almost forgot ...

Wolfenbill - The work being done by the crowd at Old Kingsbury is amazing - so many projects at the same time and each one astounding !

Situation to Avoid!

"I cut that wood 3 times and it is still too short!"
