Usually this resulted in broken hole saw teeth.
I persevered but broke quite a few hole saws in doing the whole fuselage.
Just my experience.
Same Here ...

Hi Tim,

Did you build them ? They both look fantastic. Is that a Sands DR-1. What's powering your DR-1 and Sopwith ? Is the Sopwith wood or steel tube framed ?

Dana Narcunas built the DR1 and Roland Carlson built the Camel. I flew the Camel from Wisconsin to Florida, probably the longest flight ever of a Camel about 1100 nm. I flew the Dr1 at the airport in NC were I bought it and thought better of trying to fly it to Florida with no experience in the plane, so I took it apart and trucked in home and learned to fly it there. The Dr1 is Ron Sands with a LYC and the Camel has a Warner 165. The Camel has square tubing for the fuselage. The performance of both planes are very close to the originals.

Update

Installed the tailskid shock cord. Stretching this and trying to tie off the loops was no easy task on my own, and this is only 1/2" cord. I used an acetylene bottle suspended on one end to help stretch it. My main undercarriage cord will be worse as its 5/8" cord. Hope I dont put a foot through my subwing.

Also made my rear turtledeck.

Also installed all wood fabric reinforcement blocks to hinge and control horn areas.

Made axle and brake components

Silver soldered trailing edge wire on ailerons. Needs care to avoid melting the wire.

Wow Pete, you are cookin'!

Your bracing looks very even, congrats. I can imagine how difficult installing the bungee cord was- and yes, I wonder what the larger diameter on the LG will be like!

Ed and I got together for a little while today- I worked on more of my bracing. Hopefully I'll finish the bracing next weekend. Photos soon!

Brazing Aileron Wire

Hi Dogtail2,

Everything is looking perfect. When you did the wire at the back of the ribs did you secure one end by brazing it, then stretch it tight and braze all the other ribs. What method did you use ? Is there a specific tension required of the wire ? It has to give some to form the scalloped look, right ?
