Correction to my last.

The tube does separate from the bottom bevel gear housing. But it is threaded both ends and there was a miniscule pin preventing it from unscrewing, which was painted over and which I had to drill out. I thought the tube was some sort of plastic material but it is thin wall aluminium. I will have to shorten the tube in the middle and make up some sort of insert to rejoin the threaded ends.

Pete,

Thanks for the updates. It looks like with both the tube and the rod that- and this isn't the best solution I imagine- you could cut them to whatever length you wish and then simply sleeve them for reinforcement, yes?

Again, it's easy to make recommendations from the sidelines which are 5000 miles away... =-)

I think sleeving and pinning might be the answer. Cant afford it coming apart inside the tank. Even the brass rod is stepped to a smaller diameter at the end.
None of this seems to relate to Ron's description.

Hi Troy,

Looks pretty thin and I dont know what thread it is. Think I'll go the chop and sleeve route. Same with the brass rod. Still have to disassemble the bottom bevel gears which all seem to be permanently pinned. Not a grub screw in sight

Parts Sale

Gentlemen,

It is with a sad heart that I post a dream for sale. It has come to that point that I must sell my build. I have purchased all of the metal from Wicks:

Rivets
Sheet Steel
Hardware
Stainless Steel
Steel Tubing (thicker for aerobatics as per Ron's plans)
Wood for the Horizontal Stab and Rudder

Additional Items:
Ferrules
Gas Gage
Complete Cut of the steel parts from Kingsbury Airport
The Work Table
The Welded Fuselage (I am an amateur so no guarantees)
The Rudder
Beginnings of the horizontal stab
Lightweight gas welder torch (with 001, 002, 003 tips)
Extra steel tubing
Machined parts for the landing gear
and more

You will need to rent a Uhaul as some of the steel is in 20 foot lengths, along with the fuselage and table. Everything must go and I am asking $4000.00 or best offer. Please feel free to email me your questions or offers.

Thank you for your assistance in this difficult time. Good news I got the house and full custody of the children in the divorce.

JoePilot,

Well, it's good to hear from you even though the airplane news is sad. Several of us were wondering how you were. I'd put the news out on barnstormers, trade a plane and even eBay. I'd be surprised if someone isn't interested- I'd have been only a few years ago!

Keep in touch- you know where to find us.

Jim

Joepilot,
Very sorry to hear this and, having survived a similar experience I have some sense of your position.
You can always build another airplane. The children you can't replace.
I think that you got the better part of the deal.
Regards,
John
