Engage the Fight - A Return

Tripe Builders,

Events have changed that have allowed me to return to the fray. Although the previous 2 years were fraught with toil, sweat, and trials - sometimes the good guys win. I am happy to announce that I have ended the "escape maneuver" and can "pitch back" into the fight. Resources have miraculously arrived and my "personal legend" of getting my fighter back has returned.

Good news is I have all the metal required, so I don't have to spend $$$ right now, all I have to do is build. I stopped some 2 years ago (aka divorce), but good triumphed over evil and I got the kids and the house (oh and the debt too, oh well) - now it is time to build and fly a great Air-Defense fighter: "Climbs like a monkey and turns like the devil" - The Baron.

So now I am stuck on the rudder bar. What are the techniques for being able to get the sleave to freely rotate on the vertical post? Obviously after welding the support brackets and the horizontal post to the sleave, the shape is de-formed somewhat. Any ideas on how I can get it to slide on to the vertical post and have free-wheeling rudder bar?

What I use to do - which is why I'm building the Tripe - Pitching back into the fight!

PS. Thanks to all that called to assist & encourage me! It is like Jim says that this forum of Tripe builders is a community of believers and friends. Thank you very deeply - It is good to come home again!

Joe, glad to hear you have recovered from Military AIDS (Aviation Induced Divorce Syndrome) and are back to building! Although I am building a DVII, I offer any help I am capable of.

Welcome Back Joe. And to you and Jeff, we're thinking of you on Veteran's Day.

let me think of the best way to answer your question.

I have fitted all 3 wings now to the fuselage- apologies no pictures of the top wing going on- will do soon.

Thanks

Thank you Jeff and I think I will be calling on you. I hear you have a good idea on the gear box. Don't know nothin' about no rivets, so any clues will be of assistance.

Thank you Jim, read your article in WW1 Aero magazine - good stuff. Envy on your wings to the fuselage. Can't wait for the pics.

Joe,

Welcome back!

When the welding on the rudder bar is complete, use an adjustable reamer to open out the pivot tube, to allow the rudder bar to rotate freely. An adjustable reamer allows you to inrease the hole size a little at a time. Dont take too much off - you dont want it sloppy.

Joe,

Congrats on your return, always glad to hear of someone else building a new bird. Good luck.

(Could Joepilot and Joe-the-Plumber be one and the same???)
