Rudder Pedals

Got to work today for about 6 hours. Practiced on a trash piece to work the rudder pedals. Thank you Jeff for the heads up on a training video. I began to get the idea and was able to bend a long piece into 2 rudder pedals.

Highslide JS

Crazy bend but hey I got to use most of the piece of steel

Highslide JS

So I began to get the pedals ready to weld to the rudder bar. Good news I got the left one tacked. Began working on the right side and I knew something was wrong. I thought my pressure gage was busted on the acetylene tank. Nothing was wrong except I was out of gas. So here is the picture with the pedals held up. Not bad - I made them wider at the base so I can get my big size 14 shoe through the hoop to the brake pedal.

Hope to get back to work on Thur or Friday of this upcoming week.

Fitting Top Wing

We fit the 3 wings of my aircraft in two stages- the bottom and middle wings, and the middle and top wings- all due to time and as you can see, space.

It was a huge relief to walk the top wing around have it sit nicely onto the cabanes for their tack welding- the streamlined tubes with the small connecting trapezoid were mounted to the fuselage, and the mounting tubes were pre-bolted onto the wing brackets. After we gently sat the top wing and its mounting tubes onto the awaiting gap on top of the cabanes' streamlined tubes and measured from the two wingtips to the center of the rear most point of the fuselage, we were only 1/16" off! So we tweaked the difference and locked everything down for more tacking in prep for a final weld. Then I slid the ailerons onto the wings and, waiting for Ed to come back into town to help me actually mount them, I went ahead and laid out the aileron control rigging. At this time, I have completed all of the contri\ol rigging and am happy with it. Once Ed and I actually bolt on the ailerons, I'll make note of where the control horn cables pass through the wings for access through the fabric later. Same with the horiz stab. Once this is done, there's no reason I couldn't cover all the control surfaces, the horiz stab and the wings.

Which leaves cockpit forward the final push over winter- I'll probably tackle the flat engine mount next...

Jim

PS- the apparent curvature of the top wing in the frontal photo is due to the extreme telephoto I used in the cramped shop...

Thanks John,

I'll be able to get closeups of the ailerons and interplane struts next time around. The aileron photos will come with the mounting procedure and the interplane strut photos will come with the finish welding/fitting of the cabanes.

Regards,

Jim

Hello all !
Things have been a little quiet around my workshop lately and progress has been slow......hence my lack of posts recently. The missus and I are very excited to be expecting our second child and my time over the last few months has been consumed by prepping for the baby (been four years since our Son was born and have to prepare for a newborn !)

Anyway, we just found out we are having a girl !! We couldn't be happier !!

But.....I have finished my fuse table and will be cutting and fitting tubes very soon ! I promise to become a regular poster again asap!

BTW...Jim, everything is looking fantastic !

Congrats on your upcoming little "Fokker-ette". Hopefully your little girl will look more like your wife than you.

Thanks Andy and Joe,

Andy, you and your wife have been working on a great project. Please post us a photo here when your new arrival lands safely. Just make sure she has her flight helmet on....

Will be great to have an extra pair of hands to help you with your project! And one day you will remember each peanut butter and jelly stain with increasing fondness...

Jim
