New Progress!

Well, I have built my spar jig table. Came out better (more true) than I would have expected! Used a Laser line to check it out. Pretty cool! Now I am just waiting for some angle aluminum to come in that I can use for the sides to clamp everything into. Of course, there are a zillion clamping bolts to screw in also, but the big work is done. I'll send photos this evening, as well as my new Hangar 1!

Jim

Thanks Fokker210, WorldCruiser and Dogtail 2 for all of your help with recent spar questions!

Got a chance to do a little more work with the CNC mill and lathe recently so here are a few shots of the progress - not much but I guess a little progress is better than none. Just trying to stay busy while the glue dries elsewhere !

Here is a pic of some misc. bracket pieces and strut ends...sorry for the bad pics. I think my camera is about worn out !

And a couple of CU's of the strut end components...

That's all for now....anyone else making any headway ??

Spar Jig Build

Fritz and I received our angle aluminum today- 2 pcs @ 22 feet long each! Sat them on my jig table and will soon anchor them down. Just thought you might want to see the progress so far!

Thanks Fokker210!

This weekend I'll use a laser to true one side and then I can use it as a reference to secure the other. Question, is the space between the 2 sides critical (10 5/8"), or is it OK to change that a little as long as you can fit a spar and a wedge in there?

Thanks!

Jim

Jim,
I don't feel the width is really "critical" just as long as you have enough space to wedge it all up securely. Just keep the wax paper handy !

Jim,
I have not found an instance that having the 'second' side straight and parallel is required. As Fokker210 comments, as long as the second side is secure, all you really do is use wedges against it. by the way, I use door shims for wedging and they seem to work ok.
