It is just a DeWalt Heavy-Duty 14" (355mm) Chop Saw - DW871 it's made for cutting metal with a abrasive Saw Blade. It workes quite well and fast.

Thanks! I'm just trying to get an idea of the types of tools people are using to build.

I purchased one of these, and found the base plate that holds the material leaves a lot to be desired. Dewalt is the only one to have this cam lock for the angle fence and it sucks. It will also pop a 15amp breaker and you need a 20 amp or higher just to use it. My recommendation? Buy the cheaper brand and save $100.

What engine will you be using....

Is anybody here going to use the new Rotec R3600 radial engine in their projects?
While looking at their website I saw that the first has been built and will be on a replica Nieuport 28. Heres a link to some photo's of both of them on their web site:

http://www.rotecradialengines.com/cu.../RayJarvis.htm

There is also a short video of it starting up, sounds great.
I admire all the work you blokes put into your projects and your sharing of knowledge between each other. If only you were building DVII's..
Cheers
Peter

Notching Tubing.... we use a milling machine with a cutter the same diameter as the tube- cuts through and makes a nice rounded interface for the tubing match. You can adjust the angle of the cut to match the angles of the tubes in the front part of the fuselage. We clean up with a pneumatic hand held tool that has a nifty cutting wheel. Fritz also has a nifty handheld pneumatic grinder that really cleans up the milled cut- and is super for fine tuning any fitting. We can take some close ups if you would like!

Rotec 3600- beautiful looking engine! About the price of a decent Warner too. Personally, I am still not sure- an M-14 (220hp/$10,500), a Rotec 2800 (110hp/$13,500) or a Rotec 3600 (150hp/$22K-ish).... I hope that by the time I am needing to firm up an engine choice, there will be some user reports on the Rotecs, and maybe a few more with the M-14.

NEWS FLASH FROM HANGAR 1: Today Fritz and I (mostly Fritz!) fully welded up both halves of my fuselage- awesome! pics will follow. Then we worked on taking out the distortion from the welding and began jigging up the 2 halves to accept the cross pieces- definitely a sense of completion. Also, we have ordered our Wicks Hardware Module, so we will soon be boxing in our spars.... which means we will soon be finishing our wings- starting with the upper wing.

Hope everyone was able to put the long weekend to good (aka "building") use!

Jim
