Mmmmm..never heard a rotary before, but WILL this June 3rd. I'm going to Paso Robles for the BBQ at Antique Aero. Guess they have around 21 WW1 replicas there now. Should be fun. I'll take lots of pics.

Radial or rotary

Hello
I am building my own radial
2740cc 5 cylinder of about 80hp at 2500 direct drive about 130 lbs + oil. I intend having a 100 hour run sample at Sun N Fun
I may also be building a Gnome 5cylinder replica. Might see if I can set it up as a semi sealed bearing engine to reduce oil use and running on modern 2 stroke oils and a carby for ease of operation
Interested?

Radial or rotary??

Hello
This is the Trial fit engine that I took to Oshkosh and displayed saturday and Sunday on thr Replica Fighter Club verandah. Im building the test one now. Im hanging on a 60% Grumman Bearcat for testing. I intend replacing the test with something bigger im planning. A 60% P+W R2800 radial about 680cubic inch and 350hp. BTW Im building the Bearcat too. A composite wing rib ready to fit in 45 minutes

Vongrube, I was confused by this post and by your reference to two cycle engines. Then I realized that you might be confusing the similar sounding "Rotax" engine name with the Australian built "Rotec" engine. The Rotec radials are relatively new on the market, are 4 stroke engines, and will be a player in the market fairly soon. Look at this link for a better idea. You just might like it. http://www.rotecradialengines.com/

Machinbird..
My apologies..you are so right. I WAS speaking about the two cycle ROTAX engines. I have no experience with the ROTEC engines which..as you say are four cycle..would be very interesting to see.

Machinbird,
Went to the site you left. I have to say I am VERY impressed!!
The dimensions and performance data for the 150hp engine would be more than acceptable for my trriplane.
Soooo.....whats an engine like that going to cost me?
It seems to be exactly what I would need.

Rotec Engines

Maybe a group rate would be in order for a whole Jasta order.
