Blue Max Replica Pfalz D.111
Hi all
One of the replicas that flew in the 1966 movie has just flown again here at Omaka airfield, Blenheim, N.Z. after 5 years of restoration work. It is one of the dozen or so full scale flyable replicas owned by film director Peter Jackson.
I was wondering if anyone has photos of it around the time of the movie, or there after ? ( it also flew in the 1970 movie 'von Richthofen & Brown ).
regards
Dave

Yes, although as it is now back in that scheme I would be interested to see if at any stage it wore another ?

Dave
p.s. I think this is the 'other' Pfalz replica used, one was made from a Tiger Moth and has the abrupt shorn off tail with the stabilizer on top, the Omaka one has the tail coming to a fine taper with the horizontal tail centrally placed.

I wanted to see it again...
I remember seeing that film mumblemumble years ago as a 12 year old and still think that D.III is pretty neat.

Yeah- I believe you're correct- the one in this pic is the "other one", owned by Javier Arango. It's been flying for years wearing Fritz Hohn's colors over pfalse Pfalz silver gray. Fin/rudder shape, exact cabane strut placement and differing fuselage/wing fairing curvy stuff are other ID points.

I think the "other" Pfalz D.III is the one leading the flight. It's rudder is slightly larger and little if any close-ups of it.

Whose Pfalz?
Was it the one owned by the late Frank Ryder?

Yes it was, and acquired by Peter Jackson in poor condition in 1999.
