That was a significant feat of navigation since they got from Newfoundland to Ireland by dead reckoning (though they may have used a sextant for latitude and radio time signals for longitude).

It also required some courage as the Vimy had demonstrated it's inability to stay aloft on one engine during the London to Sidney flight.

Congratulations to the intrepid aviators!

That Vimy sure looked nice in the air.

You start flying with a full bag of luck and an empty bag for experience. The object is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

For anyone who didn't hear the Vimy made the Atlantic crossing this past weekend and successfully landed in Ireland after an 18 hour flight. Congratulations to Mark and Steve for accomplishing such a feat.

Regarding those photographs over Toronto I had the privilege of being the SE5 driver for the event and must say it was a most unique opportunity to fly in that gaggle!

Since it’s most likely the Vimy replica is now to be retired to static display I doubt such a sight will be seen again any time soon.
