Best Birthday Ever
Gentleman,
Too excited to contain myself, my wife took me on Sunday to pick up my birthday present from a local closed airfield. An 80hp Le Rhone (US&S) complete with original throttle quad, carb, mag, oil pump, hub, drum of castor oil, and running stand. Turns freely and compression on all but two cylinders. Needs overhaul but that's the fun part. Original engines are still out there! This one unknown and just a few miles from home, don't give up! Our Pup awaits. I'll keep you posted on overhaul. Oh yes, She has no sisters but one available brother.
Best,
William

Thanks Langdon, I still don't know what she sees in me. Fat, old, grumpy men are a dime a dozen. Photos below. Interestingly there is an electric starter with a bolt on adapter geared ring.

Happy birthday and congratulations from me as well.
Give my regards to her also. What a great lady you must have. Not just because she gave this gift to you, but rather more since she is willing to share you with this piece of history. I am quite sure it will consume some of your time :-)
Take Care!

Doesn't look a bit like a fat, grumpy, old man. Looks like an engine to me.
Congratulations!

Several years ago my wife gave me the money to go buy a vintage motorcycle. In the garage sits a 1953 Matchless 350cc waiting for me to restore it.

Thanks guys, I am blessed. Of course, it occured to me today while I was caressing the engine that she's the engineer half of C.F.E., I'm the historian, and her birthday was the weekend before mine Oh well perhaps we can share it , I'm not going to complain .
Best to all,
Lucky William

William,
I wrote to the US&S company once to see if they had any original engine drawings, unfortunately they didn't but they were very helpful and sent me a pair of photos of the first 80 LeRhone they built along with a copy of a newspaper article. Unfortunately my records are packed away presently but I will send you a copy once I have access to them again.
