Where to Find Parts for a Ranger L-440?
Hello all builders,
I am trying to track down replacement parts for a Ranger L-440 engine.
I figured many of you builders have run into this before, and might be able to steer me in the right direction.
Jeff

Jeff,
What parts are you looking for?
Many seals and bearings are available from other sources if you now the dimensional specifics. Gaskets are simple to make and current materials/techniques can be superior to the original. It doesn't hurt to have a spare engine or two for items such as cylinders, valves and pistons etc. and it is surprising how inexpensive a core engine can be although it is a never ending process to find, bargain etc.

Jeff,
You need to join the Yahoo group for Fairchild owners:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fairchildclub/
There are a few suppliers there that post. That's where I found some motor mounts that I needed.

What is a good price for a core engine?
I am actually ooking for a Ranger L-440 engine. I wanted to know if parts were available before buying the engine.
Anyone have any idea what a fair price to ask for a core engine might be, (given that i'll have to spend more to rebuild it)
I figure, with the the cost of the engine, the availability of parts and the cost of overhauling the engine. ... I am still trying to decide if the Ranger is a good choice for a powerplant.

The Ranger is a good engine. It just depends upon for what you wish to use it. Remember, it normally runs inverted, the cylinder heads are on the bottom, so the crankshaft, etc. is at the top of the engine, unless you decide to modify it.

A core ballpark price would be $500; With carb & mags about $700-$800.

WOW, is that all? I might need to find one of those! It would go GREAT in a reduced-scale Albatros!

Plus $400 + crating, to ship it by freight, then you have to build a frame to hold it off the garage floor...Then you go out and say everynight.."Why did I do this?"

It'd also be good in a full scale albatros. We use them in our full size SE5, and DVII. Great engines on the whole, although the inverted one is a bit tempremental to start when its hot.
