Here is the backing piece that I will use to provide pressure during gluing.

The piece has holes to allow me to adjust the piece into the right place. the string is for when I remove the piece later.

Here is the backing piece in place for gluing.

I applied glue to just the scarf joint and applied pressure along that joint.

Now that I have glued this piece, I understand why AC 43.13-1b shows a scarf joint on all four sides. It makes it possible to glue on all four sides at once instead of the scarf then going back to do the other edges.

Although, I still have to do this the way I did it, because I would not be able to remove the backing block after I am done gluing.

Thumbs up

Looks good Jeff, lots of work for such a simple crack. Great idea on the splice support block.

Have you thought about glassing the bottom for strengthening the plywood verses just applying fabric. Seems the sub-wing bottom was a constant source of repair in service ........ and even now.

Just a thought.

Yeah, but I have to keep the weight down, so I gotta learn to do this repair anyway. I can imagine the damage runing over a wheel chauk can do!

Achim Engles is working on 4 of them, once he finishes his DVIIIs.
Mike Chancy out of TX is building one.
Buck Toeges out of TX is building one.
Roger Freeman out of TX is building one more.
Dave Watts had one in the throws of construction he brought to Dayton airshow

Other builders who have finished theirs ...
William Korver's museum out of the Netherlands
Byron Peterson out of Callinsville, OK has built a few DVIIs and a couple of C1's.
Richard Enos out of Wellington, AZ built one with a DIIIa.
Andrew Parks out of Littleton, CO has one.
Joe Haski out of Youngstown, OH shows up on the FAA registry with a DVII.
George Clapp out of Allegany, NY shows up on the FAA registry with a DVII.

one out of Scottsdale, AZ shows up on the FAA registry with a DVII.
Lauren Rambo out of Addison, TX shows up on the FAA registry with a DVII.
Lippert Orville out of Riverdale, MI shows up on the FAA registry with a DVII.
Then there is the DVII at ORA ....

I am not sure I got them all, but those I know about for sure.

Last year there was a thread about this ... Locate all Foker D VII builders

We should be working on a big get-together for the centennial of the Great War! There would be some 25 - 30 DVII's in one place!

Jeff,
How did I miss this Post? I've been doing a little research on WWI replicas on the FAA registry... Right now I see 22 aircraft that represent Fokker DVII / C1.

Here is the listing in the attached document. Granted, this includes all aircraft that say they represent a Fokker DVII... everything from Javier's to Baslee...

RobW,
Thanks for the input. I have almost all of these on your list. I wrote to all the ones I have and introduced myself. I asked for info on their projects ... not all have answered.

The ones you have posted that are missing are missing from my list are:
Southern Museum of flight in Birmingham, AL
Seaview Princess Inc in Whippany, NJ
Kelly Donald in The Colony, TX
and the unnamed one in OKC, OK

Jeff,
Thanks, sorry I missed it the first time around. I've been doing a lot of digging in that registry and I'd like it all to be useful for something.

For those who look at that document and it looks crappy on their machine, if they would look in the bottom right corner of the picture window, they will find a button to make it full screen. The quality is much better in that view.

If anyone else is interested in finding other specific WWI types (or any type of aircraft) let me know. I've got a pretty good database tool that lets me dig around in the database and find them (despite the various wacky names that people use for their plane).

Add Me!

Jeff,

While I have been collecting some parts for a Fokker D.VII reproduction, I do have contracted D.VII wings being built for me right now, so I'd like to be considered on your list as well?

Regards, Gary Sewall (Huntington Beach, CA.)
