I got your email, and I missed the DVII control column in the museum. Vet, John & Fred were looking at it, but I had to take my son back to the hotel ... he was getting tired.

D.VII control stick

Here are the pictures I took of the control stick. Not great but maybe of some interest. (This is the first time I've tried uploading so let me know how it works.)

Jeff,
Too bad that you missed it. A few interesting points but all subjective. The whole column looked smaller or more delicate than what you and I have made. Most notable is the spacing between the two lower column tabs for the elevator cables. They look to be no more than 5mm apart.
Be nice to measure one someday instead of relying on the various drawings.
Regards,
John

23 Oct 09 Progress Report

Hi All,
It has been a while, but I really didn't have too much to report.
I got the outer wing fittings from Vet after the Dawn Patrol, but I have been waiting for the wing fittings to be bent into shape.

In the meantime, I have started construction on the addition to my house. My father in law is moving in. I found a GREAT contractor who is doing a great job. He has dug the basement out so I can build the wings inside over the winter, and putting a double door walk out with a ramp to get the wings out.

Here are the fittings on the wing. I still have to make the 1mm strap that goes around the spar under the fitting.

Here is a closeup of the fitting.

Of course on the other side, you can see that the bolts I have are too long, so I placed an order for the correct size AN bolt. I have also ordered epoxy paint so I can "dip paint" these parts.

Here are the rear spar fittings.

Just waiting on the THICK fittings to get bent into shape. Then I can finish the leading edge of the wing.

between the metal fitting and the top of the spar is a 5mm piece of plywood ,glued to the spar , the ends taper down to the spar .
