Jeff,
Thanks for starting the thread. Its great to see how your project is coming and how you've decided to tackle particular tasks.
Between the GWFM DVII, Maxim08's and yours we're well on the way to a Jasta here in the NE!
Keep up the great work.
Cheers
Ed

Jeff,
Good looking job! We will have to get together sometime this summer to look over each others projects. Currently I'm spraying the color coats, then will start final assembly on the Curtis Pusher.

Wow. I was thinking that the ball & sockets didn't need to made that precise? Is that true? I would have thought that a bull nose end mill or plain drilled holes in the sockets would work fine. How does the alignment of the sockets to the fuselage longerons perfomed? I would think some screw adjusters might be necessary to get all four legs even to the fuselage, but Fokker didn't use any that I could see.

yeah, the fit should be smooth inside so there is even contact with the ball socket. if there is just a ring around the top of the socket that is making contact, there will be too much stress on the ball. a poor fit increases the wear on the top of the ball socket and increases the likelyhood of failure under weight. you want the weight even over the surface of the socket and not on a ring on the top or on the pin that goes through the socket.
keep in mind that if it doesn't, it won't stop your plane from flying ... just might need to do more maint later.

Curtiss Pusher
Jeff,
Didn't mean to hijack your thread. Working hard to get it done this fall. All the painting and varnish work should be done by the end of April. Then will start on assembly. I'll try to start a thread on it soon.

Lookin for Dan San Abbott
I have been doing research on my plane, and all the marking data has Dan San Abbott's name all over it! I plane to use the tail number 233/18. I am looking for any / all data on a fokker built (early production) D VII. I hope he pops in on this thread and contacts me!
