I put the aluminum and plywood side on ...

I put some reinforcement under the board. When I layed the floor on the tubing, there seemed to be a slight amount of sag when I put weight on it. I felt it needed some help. I didn't see this layout on any of my drawings, but there was a need to put a small piece on either side of the hole for the compass, and I decieded to keep it symmetircal.

then I varnished it ...

Today I worked on the control column. I made a jig to hold the control horns in the right place so I could weld them. Using the directions from the Kiger Drawings, I drew out the angles and distance from the pivot point.

then I drilled out the hole in the appropreate places.

The jig held the control horns in place nicely while I tacked them in place.

Here it is in place.

Now on to sandblast, prime & paint!

My Gallery
Finish of the Axle wing.

Jeff Brooks:
The Axle wing was no covered with fabric. It was shellacked to seal the plywood surface, varnished to waterproof and painted.

I twisted my ankle last week so I don't have to go away for 8 weeks till June. I have been doing small jobs that don't require me to be on my feet too long. Like, I can sit on a bench and hammer out the ammo chute. I still have to clean it up, and I will paint it too!
Here is a few shots of the one I did today ...
