We let see where to start...
The project began about 12 years ago with a desire to build something different. I began researching the D12 and with the help of Colin Owers, Bob Waugh, Peter Gross, WW1 Aero and the Champlin Fighter Museum I collected just about every piece of information available on the the D12 and then some. I began collecting original parts and my father started construction on the radiator which took over 400 hours to complete. The fuselage prints were recreated by myself and I started the airframe by building the mold for the skins which can be barely seen against the rear hanger wall. The fuse skeleton and wooden skins are build using original construction techniques and materials. The project sat untouched for a few years and then my father started back working on it in earnest. He has done most of the work in on the project recently.
Power will be provided by a Ranger converted to run upright, I gave up looking for a DIIIAü years ago, but virtually all of the insturmentation is authentic.
Next step is to finish the rest of little access panels and fittings on the outside of the fuse so it can be painted. Then the landing gear. This should all be compleated by the end of the year and construction on the fragile wings can commence.
It is hangered at Deer Valley Airport in Phoenix Arizona
