Nieuport 17 Makes Emergency Landing!

www.foxnews.com

Click on "video" at red bar near top of page. Look for the thumbnail with this title: "Biplane lands on interstate in Michigan and bridge demolition in Texas". You may have to search the site if you are reading this after 8/15.

Yea, that is Peter Waters and his N17.
Here is what he said,
"OK, I am just worn out answering the phone...
So, Last Sunday, I flew the N17 up to Lapeer, 50 miles, from home airport for the usual breakfast..
On the return I had an engine out 3 miles from home... and glided down to the median between I-275 and I-96.. It glides great, the larger wing helps.. and not a scratch.
Yep, oodles of traffic rubber neckers, and the police were OK.
I had a ride home to get the trailer and box and tools, and on return, the press were waiting.
So, for all interested, I have a VW 1835 with dual ignition, so it wasnt a sparking problem. However, the engine has a Zenith, on the bottom, and I use a turbine pump to give pressure. I still have fuel in the tank, can hear it sloshing, so I figure the pump went out. Until the whizzers from FAA gives me instructions, The plane sits in te hangar.
At least I can advertise it for sale " as seen on National TV"!
Beat that Dick!
Pete Waters
