That's my engine.

Franzkite,
Why do you think that the gipsy queen is the best replacement for a mercedes? What does this engine have over anything else out there? Are there enough parts to produces 1-10 engines? Looks like you don't have a valve cover on piston #1 yet. Is it set up to be operational yet? Or do you still have some work on it to do before finishing? How did you solve the chroming of the cylinder barrels? How did you take care of the down draft carbs that are inverted?

Hows things going in Germany? Did you get to see any of the world cup in person this summer?
Your friend,
Buck

Mercedes has 15 liters , this Gipsy Queen has 12 liters , for example the Ranger has only 8 liters . With the today high compresion this engine has more power like the Mercedes. from 250 hp to 300 hp. The oil system is changet to have the cylinders up .The special valve cover is made to see how the oil system function with the rockers. to produces 10 engines can be a problem.
Buck , I had no time for the world cup, later more pictures and info

caburator system OK, after some oel problems in the beginning , I had to change the valve guides to have rubber seals at the valve shafts.this engine has 3 to 4 houers , and runs very good. just one part has to be changet.

Doesn't this engine run backwards?

It rotates the prop in the opposite direction of the Mercedes right? Also, since it runs at 2500 rpm instead of 1800, the prop has the be shorter? But I agree, it is a way better replacement than the Ranger. Probably better than the original since it is more dependable and parts are easier to get. Does it weight about the same as a D3a?

this engine rotates in the oposite direction.2500 is max for take of , most Mercedes have a 2.7m prop, this engine can have a 2.5 or 2.6 meter prop.there is no hub for a wooden prop for this engine , so I have to make this hubs.

Franzkait, if producing 10 flyable D3a substitute engines is a problem, then how is this a solution? The demand for additional realistic engines is probably closer to 50, maybe more. Is the supply of Gypsy Queen engines really so limited?
