Willy Coppens Hanriot Hd.1 No 24 replica
I am currently working on a Hanriot Hd.1 and am going to post progress photos as they come. I am using Jim Kiger and Macchi plans and construction will be authentic. I have an 80 LeRhone for the project, Vickers gun, most of the original instruments, cowl spinning, wing spars, and linen fabric put aside. So far I have been building parts for the fuse and gear. I am working on the wire bracing for each bay and turning ferrules from music wire, forming oval steel tubing and splicing the longerons. I built the wheels from scratch and have purchased 28 x 3 smooth tires from Coker.

Rick,
Congratulations on your Hanriot HD.1 project! I've previously posted these pictures, but you may not have seen them yet. Jim Kiger of REPLICRAFT built this amazing 1/5 true scale, actual construction Hanriot HD.1 model from his research drawings that he sells on his web. This model was built with some of the discarded wood from the restored Hanriot HD.1 that exists today in the RAF Museum. I highly recommend REPLICRAFT'S Hanriot HD.1 Plan Set drawings.
I really look forward to seeing the progress on your full-size Hanriot!
Regards, Gary Sewall

Hello Rick,
Glad to see you here on the forum. Based on the workmanship on your Nieuport I'm sure the Hanriot will be a work of art!
I look forward to watching the progress here and hopefully having a look in person during another visit.
Cheers
Edward

Hi Gary,
That Hanriot is an amazing model--and it's over 30 years old, too. I remember reading about when I was in junior high and getting all excited by such construction! At that point it was still in its bare bones stage.
Best of luck, Rick on your project!
Lyle

Lyle,
Yep, that's the model! And it still looks new today, as you can see. Here is an old photo of it before covering, when Jim Kiger had it at the Paris Airshow way back when, along side its original and restored 'mother' Hanriot which had donated the original W.W.I wood for this model's construction. Note the model's plywood display stand, which also doubles as a great shipping container! This model has NEVER had any shipping damage! Hard to believe!
Also, here is a recent photo of its 'mother' Hanriot dispayed in the RAF Museum with its new paint scheme.

Rick,
I look forwards to photos of the Hanriot build.
Considering how good your work is on the Nieuport, I suspect that the new bird will be spectacular.
Regards,
John W.
