Nieuport 17 drawings copyright

I've just aquired a complete set of Rozendalh's Nieu.17 drawings. I was wondering if there is a copyright on these? It is my understanding that the draftsman made them in the 1920's. Does anyone know if these have passed into the public domain?

Is there any info on the draftsman? I've heard that he became a National Socialist. Is he dead? What happened to him???

The drawings appear to very good. I will be closlely comparing them to Hardesty's effort of the same subject.

Can anyone comment with authority as to each effort's authenticiy???

I would like to see a discussion regarding the best drawings for a Nieuport 17 repro.

Rozendahl Drawings

I have seen bits of these drawings in small format but I've never seen (at least not knowingly) a full set. I was wondering how extensive are they and in what format? How does one obtain a fullset?

My Gallery
I got high res versions of the rozandall plans (3 sheets) that are posted on the Nieuport page here:
http://mars.ark.com/~mdf/N_17d.html
the files were not great - but large enough to read the dimensions.

the plans were excelent for what I wanted to do, which was to make a detailed 3D cad model.
in fact, they are the single best resource i've ever found for this kind of work.
but i can not say if they would be adequate for building a repro.

i also had copies of the hardesty plans - and I remember suspecting that they were probably based on rozendall.
the math matched up a little too perfectly - but I can not say for sure.
however there were some bits and pieces on the hardesty plans that weren't on the rozendall plans.

How does one obtain a full set?
If I can get the copyright issue answered then I may be able to help...

My set is blueline print at a noted 1/5 scale. All text appears to be German. I have not yet found a date, although I cannot peruse them here at home. I'm still trying to determine where my source got them .

Charles,

Have you tried contacting Leo Opdycke at WWI Aero regarding the Nie. 17 material in the Journal's archives? Contact Leo at (845) 473-3679.

This online version of WWI Aero's Master Materials List (done I believe as an effort by an enthusiast a few years back) lists among other things, 25x30" format Rozendaal drawings, a 30 page translation of Rozendaal's article on a captured Nie. 17, and 19 sheets of factory drawings for the Nieuport-Macchi built version:

http://www.ww1aeroplanesinc.org/docs...als%20list.htm

I'm afraid I don't know enough to comment on the accuracy or other details of these references. I hope this helps.

Charlie,
How complete are they. I have seen the three pages that seem to be out there. Is there more? Very interested in what you find out.

I've mentioned this on the forum before, I have a set of blue prints for the Nieuport 23 / 24 / 27 series, taken from the full size original French drawings. The set must be fairly complete, and runs to over 300 drawings, each sheet is dated either 1917 or 1918. I am not sure if this set is available elsewhere, I intend to scan them and perhaps offer them on CD-ROM, if copyright restrictions allow and there is sufficient interest.

Robert.
