Sopwith Camel prop. size

Hi,
You may or may not know, I am building a stage prop of a Sopwith Camel scale 1:1
Could someone help me! What is the size of the propeller?

Thanks

8' 9" seems to pop in to my head. It was a HUGE prop and I have drawings around here someplace. I think WW-I Aero published really nice drawings some years back with front, side and section views. Is your Camel for display only? What plans are you using? What are you using the plane for? If it is display only I have some exterior drawings of some of the engines too. Remember if it is display to make the parts impossible to use on a flying plane. I have found putting the prop bolt holes in the wrong place works really well.

Doowrik, Member Yavor just posted a link the other day to an old report.
http://naca.central.cranfield.ac.uk/...arc/rm/448.pdf
Figure 1 of that report is a prop for a two bladed, clockwise rotation (as viewed from in front of the aircraft) propeller for a B.R.1 engined camel. The prop diameter was 102 inches if my conversion calculations are correct. The figure gives cross sections and angles of incidence for six stations along the prop. Definitely enough information to build a non-flightworthy replica.

Neat report! There are hundreds of NACA reports scanned in at the Langley library and none of them are listed by title, just report no. I have looked at a bunch of them and they tested huge numbers of WW-I aircraft and components. It will take YEARS to sift through them all!
I think the prop I saw was for the 110 hp Clerget 9B but Camels also flew with the 140 Clerget, the 110 Le Rhone 9J, the 100 Gnome Monosoupe, the 170 Le Rhone and the BR-1 and BR-2 Bentleys of 150 and 230 HP! I would bet there were more but I don't know about them. I would also bet they each had a different prop recommended by the engine manufacturer (lots of cheap wood worker labor back then)
