Redfern Plans are available online by the family!

Though many of us are familiar with the Ron Sands plan set for the Fokker DR-1, it is important to remember that Walt Redfern did so much to lead the way.

Therefore I am happy to start this thread with this message, just in from the Redfern estate today:

Dear Jim, Wanted top let you know that we have finally got our Web site back online (http://redfernplans.com/). We have been working issues with our mother's estate and making sure everthing was ready before we can back with the plans.
We have also found other plans but have not gone through them at this time. There may be a chance that we will be able to also offer the D-VI. Last bird Dad built before his death.
These are for the experience builder as Dad had to fill in many gaps with the drawings. They are not for the beginner!!
Do not know if you know others that might have been looking but hopefully the word will get out.
Thanks,
Dan & Floyd Redfern

Try this one. Does anyone know if these are constructed per originals?

William

I was thinking the same thing Jeff! I asked the Redferns to please make the thumbnails enlargeable for us. Would love to see one of these out there!

Jim / Jeff,
The Great War Flying Museum picked up a 'project' DH2 last summer. It came with the Redfern drawings. These are more guidelines than actual construction drawings and not nearly complete as the Sands Dr1 or Kieger's D VII drawings. Probably because there is so little real DH2 information available. Omaka has 1 flying - I believe that it is the original/prototype built by Redfern, so it is possible... Now bring on the Albatros D II.
Regards,
John

The website says, "Plans are full size". I think thats an error if the plans set are selling for $100? I would be interested to know the scale of the plans and how many sheets one gets for $100.

I think what is meant is the drawings are FOR a full size aircraft. And has been mentioned before, the DR-1 plans I have seen were not as detailed as Sands'. I would not recommend them for the first time builder, and the Redferns have said as much. However, as I near the completion of my Sands aircraft, I think I could use the Redferns drawings to build one.

I guess the more experience a builder has, the easier it is to fill in the blanks.

I would love to get my hands on a set of the D.VI drawings. I have a set of the Redfern Dr.I plans and would not be worried about using them as a first time builder. However, I am a mechanic with 20 years experience working on general aviation aircraft and that does make a big difference. I'm pleased that Dan & Floyd Redfern will continue to make the plans available. Thanks guys, and to Jim Bruton also for passing on the message.

I don't remember ever seeing a Nieuport built from Redfern plans. Did Walt change the lower wing fittings? Just curious.
