hopefully the dry sump is in the GQ and there is some sort of scavenger pump and the real sump (where the oil is) is this very handsome tank. Is this the oil cooler or is there a heat exchanger somewhere?

Yes it is like any inverted engines.

The GQ have one pressure oil pump and two scavenger oil pumps one from back and one from front.

Visit to Pavel

I was able to visit Pavel's shop and hangar and was very impressed by his D.VII projects. He has two fuselages welded together, with one on the gear, and two Gypsy Queen 70 engines for the airplanes, all looking very good.

He was able to answer some of my basic questions about the Gypsy Queens, so I am now considering using one for my project. I will be following his progress with great interest.

Thanks Pavel for your time. Keep posting the photos.

I also got a look at his Corvair powered two place. I have a Corvair powered Pietenpol-type and was interested in his conversion.

Pavel's Progress

Hi all,
Pavel sent me some updated photos.
there are a few of the fuel tank he made for me.
He had to make corrections to the tank after I changed my mind. I originally wanted the oil tank next to the fuel, but then Udo explained that the oil does not re-circulate on a Mercedes engine, and I was asking for trouble mixing a modern engine with this older design.
So Pavel plugged the oil fittings and made the baffle a part of the Aux fuel baffle.

You can see the top still has two filler openings on the right side though. It will make the tank look original.

Here is a nice shot of the side.

Here is more on the Gypsy Engine. It looks like he has it back together again.
