On July 13, 2007, about 2045 eastern daylight time, an experimental Sopwith F1, N6338, experienced a loss of engine power and collided with terrain at Greenville, Pennsylvania. The owner/pilot was operating the airplane under the provisions of 14 CFR Part 91. The private pilot sustained serious injuries; the airplane sustained substantial damage. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed; no flight plan had been filed.
The Federal Aviation Administration inspector stated that the pilot was practicing touch-and-go landings. He was around 250 to 300 feet agl, when the engine lost power. A witness reported that the airplane stalled, and then collided with terrain.
