DH4 flys to Oshkosh -no replica, original-

I was lucky to see this DH4 at Oshkosh on Friday. It flew from St Louis, but it took about 5 days to arrive (it had numerous breakdowns on the way). Corey Butcher & I strolled over to get some closer views. This is a Peck restoration and was found in a barn in Georgia (believe it or not!) and was advertised in Trade-a-Plane as a large WWI aircraft with low hours! Here is Peck's web site

Jan,

What a beautiful restoration! Do you know the engine, Liberty or RR? Did they tell you what the breakdowns were all about?

Phil

Phil,
Go to his web page and view the restoration. Its a genuine Liberty engine. Lots of pictures there, you will like.
Peck Aeroplane Restoration
The first problem was the radiator petcock unscrewed and the water ran out.
Another problem was a broken drive gear to the distributor (I think). They made a crude gear, flew it and it broke. So, they went to a machine shop and had a new one made.
Another problem was the tail skid broke and they had to make another. They departed last Sunday and arrived Friday.
