Achim,

how do you attach the "Köperband" ribbon to the wooden strips, or which glue do you use for this? I tried this using "Ponal" but progress was so slow, that the glue dried in places before I got there. I guess that the ribbon shouldn't be too clogged with glue as this would make sewing the fabric to the strip very awkward.

Excellent work you're doing - Keep it up!

Acer

It is neither a good nor a bad question. It is a request for help from a person that seems quit knowledgeable in his field and who is actually prepared to help other people instead of just criticizing them.

Achim, keep up the good work.

Cheers

Peter,

The wrapping is only glued to the strips at the tips. When the Fokker ribs are made, then the strips are glued to the rib web. This eventually will fix the wrapping to the entire strip. The joint is quite strong as we found in our load test on the cap strips and their attachment to the rib web.

I don´t know how Heinkel did it, but you certainly will not apply glue to where you want to sew and glue the fabric cover to in the end.

Engelmann,

In the meantime you should have been able to download the documents in concern that I have on the D.VIII wing from my server. I have to check and see if there is more that I did not upload so far and will send it to your address via E-mail then. Just give me some time.

As mentioned in my e-amil to you, I would also try the other way of contacting Langdon Badger as suggested.

The bending tool for the wing fittings is in good progress. The first bending arm works quite well. It is amazing how a good tool can easily handle such a material. It bends as soft as butter!

looks great

When you threaded the wire through the bracket did you just bend it over and whip the bend and solder over the whipping ?
And how did you tension the wire ?
The project is looking very good

Do you have the radiator done yet didn’t see it finished on your site

Hello TengeW,

The wire is just pulled through the bracket, folded over and soldered after the joint was wrapped with a thin steel wire.

The tension was achieved by bending it to exact lenght and putting the bracket to the wing afterwards.

Sorry, but there is no progress on the radiator so far since I have to use the short time we have had warm wheather here for the wood work on the wings. I hope to complete the first radiator during this comming winter.

Another Dumb Question

OK Achim, you have cut holes in each of the ribs, approx. 1 x 1.5 cm -- top, bottom, fore and aft. Breathing holes?
