John,
You can count on Great War Aerodrome being there! We are very interested in this class and look forward to participating in the first one.

For those of you who haven't seen John's work... this is a real opportunity. I hope others from the forum will join us at Blue Swallow Aircraft.

Rob & Shelly

Pete is right, the class was time well spent. John did an exceptional job of breaking all the topics down into simple subjects and offering clear, useful instructions on how to accomplish the task.

The basic concept was to start with several pieces of unfinished lumber and go through all the steps of turning them into an aircraft part.

Probably the best part of the class was the discussion... both during the class and afterward.

Here are a few shots I took over the two days...

Here is the class at the begining of the first day... from left to right
Pete, Shelly, Rob, Paul, and John Gaertner. I'm taking the photo

Rob routing the former that the class built... starting from unfinished lumber.

Pete watching John explain the finer points of Rib construction

John taking freshly steamed capstrips from the steamer...

and quickly putting them into the capstrip buck...

Sopwith and English bits

Guy Black at Retrotech in England has some amazing reproduction Sopwith parts. I have gotten a reproduction ASI and throttle quadrant, both perfect. They also have Aldis gunsights, sticks and spade grips, firing levers, sight glasses, other instruments, trailing edges and say they will be making flying wires. They have a catalog/price list of sorts as of this writing, with much more stuff.
Highly recommended.
