Fokker Axle Wings - Part 2

The original thread is closed and I wanted to add a new photo for all of you.

Fokker axle wings (Original Tread)

I just received a new Dr.I photo that I thought it would be Perfect for this thread.

I think this is the only one I have seen like this from the bottom.

Hi Tim:

This is cropped from the full size photo, this image is at it full size. I took it and could zoom in at 400% with out losing to much detail. The original photo is not a Hi-Res photo, I'm trying to get a better one, If I do I'll let you know.

I'm not going to show the rest because it a unpublished photo, and BTW it's really a nice view.

Totally not a problem. It still has great detail. It looks like the inside wheel covers were finished in a similar fashion to the outside covers. I thought they were solid.

Cool photo!

Yes, your right. I looked for it too and was kinda surprised that I didn't see them. Now this brings up the question if it was a field modification.

Does anyone know for certain that there were jack pads originally?

Lloyd- Nice photo. Sure looks a lot barer than most photos of the axle wing bottom. Like this one of a brand new Jasta 14 Dr.I showing the jacking pads. Wonder if the pads would pop out on a higher resolution photo? That light blue paint looks awfully fresh with only a few streaks.

Hello axle wing afficinados,
From my new crop of Knowlton D VII photos.

A couple of comments:
Some recent documentation indicates that this wing was re-painted about 45 years ago.
Most wood looks as old/new as the rest of the wood on this aircraft.
I dont believe that this wood has been replaced.
Additional comments please.
Regards,
John
