Good day Gentlemen (and ladies if there are any out there),
I have just joined the group, and this seemed like a good thread to start posting.
For me, I will have to go with the SE5a. IMHO, it was probably the best aircraft overall in the war. I will definately give credit to the Albatros design, or the Fokker D7, or the SPAD XIII, but SE5a had it all, speed, maneuverability, climb, dive, flexible firepower, AND unlike the D7, it was around a lot longer, going into operational service in March 1917, two months before the SPAD XIII, 7 months before the DVa and over a year before the D7. It also served as a front line fighter well after the war, and in a time period where most aircraft were obsolete or being replaced after 6 months, this says a lot about the design.
