Thanks again nick I was able to zoom in on that rib and it is an RAF 15 airfoil . once I got zoomed in I could see it a lot better.

Rudder

Have been doing a bit more work on the rudder.
A bit more panel beating to the top ribs then cut all the hole required to assemble

Then made the bracing lug to fit the bottom 3/8” tube rib. This braces the control horn either side of the rudder with a small turnbuckle and wire. Only a small part but took me several goes to get it right as my first efforts were too loose. Made a small die to press it out in, but a bit of trial and error due to a small amount of spring back. Kept machining a bit more off the die till it came out right.

Finally pinned and brazed the whole thing up. The pins held it all in place then once brazed I just peened them over like a rivet with a ball hammer

Nick,

I have received my section 121 tube and wonder how you bent it to fit your jig? It looks great.

Hi Koz,
Yes, Vet did a great job of rolling the A&P 121.
It’s much easier to bend than 4130 which would have made it a very difficult job.
Basically I just constructed the inside radius of the jig first and bent it round that, being careful to make sure that it’s square on to the leading edge otherwise it wants to roll over and bend round the side. I then built up the rest of the jig after.

Cheers, Nick

Really excellent work. If I were you however, I'd never get anything done because I'd be sitting in the cockpit going, "VROOOOOM, TAKAKAKAKAKAKA" with all the spare time I had left!

How much does a project like this cost? Does it require a large initial investment, or do you pay in increments gradually?

Hi Airwarrior,
This sort of project is built over quite a few years. Am not in a hurry to finish it and basically just drip feed it when enough funds to start each part.

Cheers, Nick

Sounds like a lot of fun. How much do you think the whole thing will have cost when you are done?

What's that famous saying about cost. " If you have to ask, you can't aford it."

Hi Tengew,
I’m still a long way off needing to yet. Am currently working on a few odds and ends but will soon make a start on the stabiliser and elevator. There’s still a lot of work to be done on the fuselage. The plan is to just about finish that before I make a start on the wings.

Cheers, Nick
