(Oz) Part 103 legal replica worthwhile?
I was talking to the technical rep from RAAus about the regulations governing owner-built aicraft and registering them as an ultralight in Australia. The basic requirements are:
MTOW: 544kg
Stall: 45kts
This brings something like a Nieuport 17 will the ball park. However the proposed Part 103 category will raise the MTOW to 600kg making many 'faithful' replicas feasible. This category is likely to be approved mid-2009.
All that being said, are there any advantages in registering the aircraft as an ultralight (Part 103) compared to an Experimental category aircraft?
