Finally, following a warm day this weekend I got the lower longerons glued in. (The only other stuff to do is to glue in the front 4 bays of the uppers which will have to wait until I flip the fuselage later this year)
Now the front end and lower fuselage is ready to clean up and prepare the metal fitings to go on. This weekend is a dead loss as Im going camping but there's lots of small metal bits to shape at night so progress wont stall completely. Tail skid blocks are nearly ready for final sanding and test fitting of the metal attachment. Control fork, block and small fittings have been drawn up and sent of to be lathed up as well. Not too bad an effort I think.
Im still not looking forward to skinning around the base of the tail....

OK Guys,

Back from Florida, man I had to get a hay baler to get the lawn down to size. Just saw the news, we have had 6" of rain in NY for the last 30 days!

Here is the current tally, I put in Johns' location

1) Koloman, DIII (among others) - Austria
2) Chris, DVa (fuse stage) -Australia
3) Al, DVa (covering stage?) - PA
4) Willie, DVa (?? stage) - TX
5) Ed DVa (embryo stage) - Millersport, Ohio
6) Brad 3/4 DVa ("daydreaming stage") - Fort Worth, Texas
7) Me, DVa (embryo stage) - NY
8) John, DVa (fuse stage) -WI

Willie, can you let me know where you are in your build??? Thanks

Chris,

Exacty how did you attach the longeron to the bulkheads? Just glue, or glue and some sort of nail or screw?

longerons

"""Chris,

I found that the longerons were pretty happy to stay put with a light-medium clamping, given that Im using epoxy I think any other fixing would be superfluous.
Its funny that looking at the frame from side or front on, it looks really nice, with the curves et al- but from certain angles it looks bloody awful (read-pretzel )and I had to have a few good looks and cross checks to ensure something hadnt gone drastically wrong. Its fine though, it just looks strange due to the combination of curves.
Im going to wait before I sand down the sloped bulkhead as there will be a fair bit of meat to remove (I made it oversized-paranoia) and I can ensure it fits the skin and sweep of the lower surface perfectly. No...scratch 'perfectly'... really well.
Its still cold here, it Snowed 200km from Bondi Beach yesterday morning.

Global warming????

pffffft

down the inside view

Heres a shot with the first few skins cut, clamped on and ready to scarf.

Highslide JS

Im not looking forward to doing the transition skin in front of the skid so Ive taken the cowards way out and I am making skins for later...
Next weekend will be steaming and clamping up the transition skin, more clean up, prepping the fittings in the tail for welding etc.

Hi All,

Maxim08 gave me a heads up on the Mikesh book showing up on ebay. The link is here; eBay. Good luck, and check out the seller's other items. He has many Windsock and Osprey books for sale. I wonder if he is one of our members?

so much for scoring a second copy....the secrets out....

the vultures are circling....

Im still playing clean up, and blocking out the tail skid here.

On the bright side, I have a long term loan of a piece (60cm x 30cm or so) of original albatros Fabric . It is the light lozenge with large remnants of green over the top so its from the lower wing or perhaps the tail. It has narrow tape and stitches attached too, but no 20mm outer rib tapes in place.

nice.

very very nice.

No log books for the engine, not inverted properly. Missing the mags, oil pump, and a few other important parts. Also not sure if it is a 175 or 200 horse engine as the data plate is rusted and in a unreadable position. And if it was run inverted, probably ruined what was a rebuildable core engine. Except for the prop, everything else in the "deal" is junk! The prop has a small knot in one blade that while airworthy, does reduce it's value. There are better deals out there if you look a little harder.

Whoa! I should have remembered your previous post, duh! Probably good to remind others of such "hot bargains".

Chris,

Sorry to have wrecked your evil plan. I thought I was helping by throwing it out to the group.

Does anyone else have this problem? I've been away for a week and I should see all the posts that occured since I've been gone, correct? When I logged back on to the forum, I didn't see this thread with the posts that happened after I posted the Ebay / Mikesh book being available. Why is that??

Phil
