So would the Baltic Birch be acceptable on the real plane, or should I only use materials labeled 'Aircraft Grade'? It's 3 ply, always clear and solid, no knots or voids. The only place around here that sells it is the specialty wood store, real high quality furniture grade stuff...About $15 for a 5'x5' sheet.

I'll practice on the areas you mentioned, I suppose I'd be better off doing smaller areas of the most difficulty anyway.

Will you be doing the U/C tubes the way Koloman did his? (2 sides hammered over a form and welded)

Is 'Wilhelm' still around? He said he was pretty far along on his Alb, never could find any pics though.

If someone wants to start an Albatross chatroom, I'd be happy to chat. I don't know how to make one, just see the "Users in Chat Rooms: 0" in the top right box.

U/C legs

the Dva U/C legs are not the same. They are bent tubes with the profile formed afterward by a rolling die so its all one piece with a round section where the axle sits and tapers into streamlined on the legs themselves.

As to your ply, it depends on the glue, manufacturing, timber etc and Im afraid Im unwilling to comment at this early stage. Ply manufacturing has come some way and many plys available may appear to be Ok but are made from poor wood, different woods etc. $15 5 x 5 seems very cheap to me...perhaps way too cheap.

If anyone out there has access to an original anemometer they could supply drawings for or have new working copies made of.....these would be quite popular to many ww1 german builders, not just V-strutter drivers.

Magneto winder and switches are required too. drawings would be fine as I can cast them up in resin to recieve modern guts where required.

I have a request from a builder for either a working or non working anemometer. Got a packet that includes 17 pages of drawings of all the parts to make one. I'm no insturment maker, but have an idea where I could adapt the inner workings from a modern insturment inside the case. This may not give accurate speed readings, but would be functional. Possibly the next project after the Auxillary Throttles.

Jeff is also after me to develop the ignition switches, if only I didn't need to make a living I could get it all done!

Anemometer

I reckon that with modern materials and equipment, enough interest, theres no reason that a replica couldnt be made as a job lot. I have bits and pieces and even bought a russki handheld one to scavenge the cup assembly from (dont tell the wife shhhhh) .As I understand it, its a version of a tacho really but Id be very interested to see the drawings and suss out how tricky it would be to make. There are various processes that could be mocked up as per the original or I expect it could be made as per the original given enough interest.
Im interested for one....

then theres the fuel gauge. I have an original which looks as though it arrived to earth in a plane (probably did) and is too damaged to restore but would provide a good basis for castings. Then you could have modern guts installed thus avoiding the cord and cork business. Is anyone Interested in this too?

chris
(Slightly exited at the moment as I have both bottom longerons approaching glue time on the weekend!!!! woo hooo, and my oh my it looks sweet too!)

Hey Chris,

Not sure, first I heard of it. Would you assume he'd go off the bulkhead in front of the ammo boxes?? He is running a Ranger and it was not mounted when I visited. Not sure how much room he has between his feet and the engine.

He goes by "Albatros Dva" on this forum. I'd try to ping him and get the info you need. But he has trouble with his computer, so it' hard for him to post a lot.

If you really need the info and don't get a reply, I can call him for you or work something else out, no problem. I should drive down for a visit, have not seen him in a while.

Also, it would be nice to see you working with Vet on that anenomonenenometer, well,....you know what I mean!!
