What a great story. Magnificent aeroplane, and a lump in the throat inducing
film clip. Thanks for posting
Cheers, Nick

I looked with respect what is accomplished here. Just as amazing as building a plane in about 5000 working hours is that it was test-flown by an 80-year old. Everything seems possible
I had not imagined that those Macchi flying boat fighter were that small, almost midget like.
Great work there.
Cheers
Kees

It's a reduced size replica, 80% or something like that, that's why it looks so small. Magnificent piece of work though.

80% .... that I did not know. Is he not the same gentleman that build the Albatross Dv, painted black fuselage with Ford engine, that was part of Frank Ryders Museum .... it was 80% scale too?

He built the black fuselage Albatros 80%, now at the Fighter Factory, I think built a Fokker Triplane that ended up at Ryder's, and also started a SPAD XIII with Lycoming engine that was almost finished when Ryder died, and is now in CA.

Yeah, he built the DV and the spad
I met Jason about 11 years ago and had him build my landing gear for my DVII.. He never started that project though. I went into his garage and saw the fuselage of the m5. It rivaled any furniture piece that you could have in your living room. It is a piece of wooden art. I got his name from wwI aero. They had a picture of him standing next to the spad 13 he was building at the time. He told me about the 80 percent albatros he built for Ryder. I think it was a tube fuselage with a fiberglass cover and a 5.0 v8. I think Ryder was considering it for a Kit plane.
I'm glad to see it flying. Just shows you lots of money plus a lot of time plus craftmanship can go a long way.
