Incidentally, this novel's subject matter is about feminism and female sexuality,..a less than eloquent way to attempt to make a point in an otherwise professional discussion.
I'm disappointed, the trouble with burning bridges is that you never know when you may want to cross back over that river.

Now, you know you need a bit of a thick skin to hang out on these forums, and this thread has had a. bit of "the sky is falling" about it. After all, we've had two pages of "if it quits on take-off put the nose down and land straight ahead". And I have to say that I don't see how the Florida mid-air has anything to do with whether or not I'm safe in my Nieuport. There are certainly enough people to keep the talk going though, but there is a long way from "I'm going to build..." to "Is this thing safe?"

Baldeagle,
I personally believe "these things" are safe enough, it's pilot mindset and behavior, that always proves to be the most contributing factor, and the purpose of the thread.
The Florida mid-air from my home field has nothing to do with your Nieuport,.. it's my thing. Butch is right, I've had enough in this density, strictly rural for me now.
A faceless stranger in cyberspace does not have the power to "ding my skin.", the professionalism of the discussion, is what was marred.

after reading this thread i have to say most of the builders are not using the 90+ year old motors to do it so in fact your flying a brand new aircraft .... flying has risks...so dose crossing the street.... unfortunately the trend in this country is to fret over what might happen 30 years ago we didnt have kids waring a helmut to ride the bike ,kids sat in any seat of the car to drive around with out a kid seat . and we still managed to keep most alive ..
these are airplanes the do fall from the sky but the risk is less than getting in a fender bender... do a good preflight ! keep your maintenance up to date !
keep your eyes open ! AND HAVE FUN!

Perspective
I concede that risk mangement, is strictly an individual perspective.
Last night, a friend of mine sent me this video link. Although off topic, I thought to share it here as it is the most spectacular " flying" footage that I personally have ever seen, and a study in itself of risk management as an individual perspective!
The file is large, but most definitely worth the wait.

This is likely a very effective way to avoid fuel-system problems.

Obviously there is more to Life than safety, or else we'd be talking quilt-making here.

You can still crash "flying" without an plane. WARNING! This one is disturbing though.
