Basic construction of my Repro Lewis Mk II .
The replica Lewis that I made for the Fe2b is based on the original Lewis MG drawings set that I obtained from BSA, the original manufacturer in WWI .....Suitably altered so that it is not classed as a gun as such and could never fire .
The receiver part , I fabricated from heavy gauge sheet mettal over steel forms ...Likewise also the various top plates and removeable covers .The action of the bolt travel and spring action is maintained , and this converts though the curved cam plate ( visable with the drum removed ) into a side to side reciprocating action , which , via detent levers , pushes the drum around a set amount , each cycle .
The barrel and many other parts are machined from steel as is the replica in general .Many parts are of course , due to their one -off and complex nature , cut and filed from the solid by hand ...Finish is chemical blacked and oiled in for preservation .
As it appears on the FE , it seems that one or two parts have gone astray since I originaly delivered it to RAFM ,some years ago .
