Centre Section "Cabane" struts .

Although their lengths were given on the drawing ,...When I checked them by calculation , which I do as a matter of course , I found that they were incorrect ,..The rear strut lengths considerably so .

I made the struts to My own , calculated dimensions , and these proved to be exactly correct when the machine was assembled .

( I keep all such calculated/derived data for future reference )

C/S strut ends

The Centre section strut end fixing , although similar in principle , is slightly different in practice .
In this case , the Strut is secured at the ends to Lugs formed integrally with the Fuselage or Wing fitting , by 1/4" thru' Bolts ,as these photos .

( Whereas all the others fitted to an Eye -Bolt ,... with the fixing Pin retained by the Strut Ferrule which enclosed the end of the strut & its Dural Packing Piece .)

Close up of the C/S strut ends

Note that these struts end attachments are therefore able to carry a tension load .

The Packing pieces are retained to the strut by string , simply as a temporary storage measure .
The 1/4" dia bolt retains the two together when the machine is assembled .

This pretty much completes the showing of all the "Parts" photos that I took ,...Those others , of Jigging , Fixtures & methods which are only of technical interest , might find their way into my book !.....one day !.
