WW1 Aero /Skyways Store Now Online!
Our new aerostore is up and running with 11 back issues of Skyways and 50 issues of WW1 Aero available for sale as PDF downloads. Our goal is to have the entire catalog of WW1 Aero & Skyways back issues online as PDF downloads as soon as possible, and we are also working on a store which will sell print editions as well as t-shirts, pins, art prints and other accessories, so please continue to check back with us at: World War 1 Aeroplanes, Inc.-Home of WW1 AERO & SKYWAYS, and click the store link. This is where our new issues will appear, and we will be constantly adding new products.
Enjoy!

This is great news! I'm looking forward to some of the 80's and 90's issues in PDF. This should generate some capitol to keep the magazine going.

WW1 Aeroplanes Store, etc.
Thanks to all who spent time and many hours getting the store online, especially Jonathan F. and Tom P.
In reviewing some of the posts on this thread and others, I see that some people still seem to have missed my many posts over these past two years as to the "reason" Leo Opdycke is no longer with WW1 Aeroplanes, Inc.
There were a number of reasons, but the fundamental reasons are very simple. The motivations underlying those reasons, however, are shrouded in what I would describe as oddness.
We, as a Board, decided to accept online payments with PayPal and credit cards and to make online sales. Leo refused to accept that decision of the Board, all members of which he had hand-picked.
He also demanded (with great heated expressions) that I, as Chair, remove certain Board Members because he was angry with them. That was not a sufficient reason and was not his decision to make, so I did not, especially since the Members Leo wanted me to dump were two of our most experienced, productive and supportive Members.
So, Leo quit - it was his choice to leave, no one wanted him to go.
Yesterday, I exercised my choice, and after some years, I resigned from WW1 Aeroplanes, Inc. I'll still offer financial support, as I can, and I encourage others who appreciate the legacy which Leo left us, to assist WW1 Aeroplanes, Inc., as well.
Best,
cfgray
PS: I've had a software engineer working on AeroForum and it appears that there was an intentional malicious hack of the database. When I last checked it is online, and hopefully it will be stable and solid, again, soon.

So...
I am still not entirely clear on the issue of paid subscriptions.
If I am currently paid up thru the end of 2009, as many of us are, and I have received the last printed copy (#201 Aug 2008), do I have to take any further action at this point? When #202 finally arrives in its digital version, will I be notified and then make my choice on how I wish to download my copy, or do I have to make any more notifications or followups with WWI Aero? Hopefully, I will not be required to pay again.

Hello Aroth,
To answer your question... no, there is no need to take any further action if you are already a paid member and we still owe you issues. You will be notified when #202 is available as a digital issue (it may be a while) and you (as a current member) will be able to download it for no charge. There is no need to contact us, but if you have any questions about the status of your membership, please write us at:
ww1aero
at
gmail.
com
We will be happy to answer them. Please allow us some time to get back to you.
This applies to Skyways members as well. For those members who are still owed issue #89, we will notify you when it is ready and you will be able to download it at no charge.
I hope this helps to clear things up. If not, please write me at the above address.
While I am writing, I would like to express my personal thanks to Carroll Gray for all of his efforts over the years serving on the WWI Aeroplanes, Inc. board (which was no easy task), and for his continuous support of the organization. Thank you Carroll!
Best regards,
Tom Polapink

Carroll, thanks for your service and thanks to everyone involved in getting the forum up and running. Who's at the helm now? Tom, are you now the digital editor?

AeroForum
Hi, Albrecht,
AeroForum is now cordially independent of WW1 Aeroplanes, Inc., and I will continue to be responsible for its operation and maintenance. I began the AeroForum in April 2006 and plan for it to continue to operate for some years to come.
I would hope that Tom P. would assume the role of digital editor of both journals, but each is significant challenge and Tom does have a real life to attend to, as well.
Best,
cfgray

Mr. Gray, thanks for your great effort as editor in producing WW1 Aero after Leo Opdycke quit as editor. It must have been a hard time. I hope WW1 Aero (and Skyways) will acquire another able editor and that those magazines will shine in a new (digital) light. Your effort of making the old collection available as paid downloads (at a very reasonable price) is already remarkable.
Have a good time
Kees

Just one small point about the payment for PDF downloadable copies. For non-US customers (like the Netherlands) it is somewhat strange to ask for a state, as there are no states in most countries (sure not in the Netherlands).
Even if one gives the name of a province of the Netherlands the whole payment is given an error. I do not trust that I have to fill in one of the US states to come through the programmed controls ?
I have often seen this feature, which can be easily corrected by "graying out" the state field when a non-US country is chosen via the list.
Hope this description is clear enough.
Cheers
Kees
