LOL SNJ,
This is the Grimes Airfield the home of Golden Age Air Museum Golden Age Air Museum - Early Days Of Aviation the strip was built in 1946 or so. There's a history page about the field on the website. It is 2750 feet 200' wide all grass. and situated mostly east -west. The field is open to the public for air ops but no fuel is available.
Feel free to stop in and say hello!

Man talk about a stupid mistake today
Slpiced two elevator cables not one but two!!!! then realized I forgot to add the turnbuckle ends... AAARGH a waste of 20 ' of good cable.....
at any rate, decided to do away with the original style fairleads and go with piper style to guide the cables. this way they can be maintained and replaced as necessary. Photos soon.
Ciao!

The controls now work
The last few weeks have been spent getting the museum fleet up and running but I've had time to finalize the control cables and fittings. 5 tuck splice on all of them. More photos to come soon and yes I had to re-make the elevator upper cables! LOL the aileron cables were finished yesterday and the system rigged. We ended up using Piper fairleads at most cable exit points for ease of maintenance. They will be hidden by the fabric. Now it's on to the engine installation. We're waiting on a dynafocal mount ring to use in mounting our engine. once that is in hand engine mounting will begin in earnest.
Hope to be flying soon!
Photos to be posted later.

It's interesting to note how cool these airplanes are to build.
Simple structures and all. We have to thank all of the members who have donated to provide the funds for the engine control cables, wheels Shackles, Turnbuckles!
Without these guys this Pup project would just not be getting anywhere!
Jasta, thanks for getting a few pics, I'm sorry I didn't have the chance to say hello personally!
Take care!
Mike

No worries Mike, i'm sure someday we'll have the opportunity to meet & you're welcome for the pic's. Sorry they're not of better quality/quanity.
I can only imagine how cool they are to build...i'm quite envious of the fact.
Hope i can help to contribute in some fashion as i'm looking forward to seeing them airborne someday.

Mike,
Some really great pics of your Pup there, its so good to see the progress you are all making.
In your group of pics in reply #105, the fourth picture down shows the internal bracing and brackets I was asking about.
Our plans show a Dural compression tube mounted on cup brackets outboard of the outermost rib . . and no internal bracing between the wing tip and the main plane struts.
The arrangement you have looks to be far more elegant than the plans . . is this a Sopwith modification, or something you guys have developed ?
Once again, some lovely work going on there, can't wait to see the next set !
All the best,
