I recently saw a film concerning the Vickers Vimy replica. I thought it was great and the Vimy is probably the most exotic replica built to date. Are there other candidates for that title?

The Gee Bees were beasts. I believe they all crashed with fatal results. Jimmy Doolittle managed to successfully race one, I understand.

The replicas have a different airfoil.

Not so true. The Gee Bees were built in the early 30"s, remember, this was in the great deppression. The Z model crashed due to a mechanic improperly attaching the cowl and it blew off and killed the pilot. The R1/R2's were extrordinarily successful when in the hands of competent pilots (ie Doolittle) but when the Granville brothers ran out of money (remember the great deppression) It became a pay to play situation and the crashes resulted from pilots with little or no experience in high powered, heavily loaded aircraft. The replicas do use the original configuration and airfoils and the pilots find them managable but very hot to land.

I heard talk about a Gotha G.IV project but I don't know if it's still a go. *I know Frank Ryder was the first one to talk about it. *Anyone know anything about this one?

The Gee Bees would have been fun to taxi.

The Brisfit replica is pretty exotic, the DR-I in France is SO AUTHENTIC is would fool MvR's GHOST! The attention to detail including armament is exotic bordering on insane! (I LOVE IT) There is a guy in TX who is building Replica Me-262's, talk about EXOTIC! (it must be nice to be rich! ha ha)

Buy a few thousand dollars worth of their schwag and I'm surre you could swing a tour. : If you're not spending money, they don't want to talk to you.
