This was a great day out in Masterton but unfortunately the aircraft couldnt fly due to high winds but there was a lot to look at.
The Mercedes engine on the Albatros was the sweetest engine I have heard and the FE2, and Albatros were just awesome.
Have just added a folder of photos to my website and below is a utube link for the Albatross engine run:
On my website the photos are second from the top in the gallery section.
Hi Triplane01, thanks for posting the video and the photographs. Was there any information from TVAL about the Albatros - is it likely to be staying in NZ ? Looks like it would have been a good day out !
Lovely Albatros. Happy to see it in Mai's markings. Is this a new air frame or is it the former Ryder DVa?
Are the pilot's impressions going to be published. As the Albatros was the WWI 'equivilent' of the Bf 109, a modern pilot's impression would be very welcomed. I am assuming that this plane (with the Mercedes DIII) is a reproduction as opposed to replica.
As always love you work as you make me envious of you because I probably never get a chance to make it there and see this. I did made it to Dayton this year for the Dawn Patrol but Fred Murrin didn't have his triplane ready as he's replacing the fabric. One day I see a real rotary fly...
Keep up the great work and please let us know if you will have a calendar for 2010?
Lloyd...

The Albatros is magnificent in every way and its powerplant ia an original 180hp Mercedes.
I hope to learn more about it soon but boy what an impressive aircraft.
